As with most things, Yet mindset is two sides of the same coin. You can drink alcohol and say, well I am fine because that hasn’t happened to me (yet), or I haven’t done that (yet), so l’m not that bad; alcohol is not a problem for me (Yet). Though studies show people drink more over time, not less. That’s because our bodies are incredible, extraordinary organisms that have a capacity called homeostasis, where our body will regulate itself by a whole host of different functions to maintain its necessary standards for survival; this is why there is such a thing as “tolerance.”
Tolerance develops because our body has learned with each drink how to minimize the impact of the poison. But poison is still poison. Some people like to say, “I’m the problem it’s me…” but I deeply disagree. We wouldn’t drink any other toxic chemical and say we are sick because we are sick; we would recognize we are sick because the substance causes sickness, and truer words have never been spoken. The substance of alcohol, which was banned from operating rooms in the United States in the 1970s because it was found to be too toxic to the human body, had previously been used because it was extremely effective in that it only takes a very small amount of pure alcohol to anesthetize the human body entirely. (Enough said)
Back to “Yet Mindset.” My friend I quoted yesterday inspired me again today. She said, not to me personally, but generally speaking, “You know what will happen if you drink. See what will happen if you don’t.” Two sides to the coin. You know those good things you’ve been waiting and hoping for?! Those things that haven’t happened (yet)?! Well, maybe alcohol is the single thing that’s been stopping or blocking that opportunity, that growth, that dream, the realization of that goal you feel like you’ve been fighting for, the one that hasn’t fallen into place (yet). Maybe it’s so close you can taste it.
“You know what happens if you drink. See what happens if you don’t.” Maybe everything you’ve ever wanted is on the other side of this little change; this little choice that has the power to change everything. What have you got to lose?!
